얼마전에 내가 번역하고 있는 영어작문 홈페이지에서 약관을 읽어보게 되었다. 나야 홈페이지의 내용이 좋아서 내 블로그에 옮겨보면 어떨까 하고 무작정 번역을 시작했던건데 순간 불법을 저지르고 있는게 아닌가 하는 의심이 들었다... 뭐.. 찬찬히 읽어보니 비 영리적으로만 쓴다면야 별로 하자가 없을것 같아서 문의메일을 한번 보내보기로 했는데..
1. 맨 처음에 내가 보낸 메일인데, 나는 이걸 보낼때 까지만 해도 당연히 번역과 게시가 허락 될꺼라 생각했다. 오히려 로고를 사용해도 되냐는식의 엉뚱한 질문이 포함되 있을 정도였으니깐..

As your suggestion, I can link your web site in my blog(of course I've already done it), but I know that most of the people who visits my blog do not concentrate on the link only. On the other hand, if I translate each your page of hand-outs and link your web site address, surely it can have better chance for my visitors to visit your web site more. As I declared I won't use your web-site for any profitable purpose. I just want a permission to translate your hand-out legally. Please..

I'm sorry, but this is our policy. We cannot allow you to translate our materials. We have this policy in place to protect our own rights and to make sure our materials stay directly connected to our site. In the past, some people have copied our information to others sites and over time, the credit and authorship and link back to the site was lost. And so many years ago, we instituted a policy that said people could not post our content offsite anywhere. I'm sorry that this is upsetting to you, but there is nothing else I can do about it.

지금와서 아쉬운건... 정말 하고싶었다는 것 정도나 될까.. 다른 홈페이지 여기저기 들쑤시는것 보다야 한 홈페이지 진득하게 파고 모자른것만 다른 홈페이지를 참고하고자 했던 나의 바램은 여지없이 무너져 버렸다. 역시, 세상 뜻데로만 되는건 아니라는 교훈을 남기면서...
그래도, 하지 말라는데 불법으로 퍼다가 나르고 싶은 생각은 없다. 그쪽의 의견이 존중 받아야 하는것도 당연한 일이고.. 다만, 역시 아쉬움은 남는다.
이제부터는 다른 홈페이지 물색해 봐야겠다. 이번에는 맘씨 좋은 홈페이지 만나려나~ㅋ
